Orvin Earl Rowe & Lily Marie McClaskey
My
grandfather, Orvin Earl Rowe, was born September 21, 1910 in Toledo, Oregon.
He is the son of Alfred B. Rowe & Emily Cecelia Nelson. His heritage is a mix of
what appears to be English Blood and Danish as his mother's parents, daughter of
CHRESTER NIELSON and CECELIA ESHELSON came to
America from Jutland, Denmark in 1905.
After 2 short marriages, my grandmother, Lily Marie McClaskey (daughter of
Robert John McClaskey & Cordelia Jane Stuart) and he found each other, and
married on March 18, 1939.
There
were 9 children from this marriage, 8 of them lived. The other died shortly
after birth, and is known as baby Rowe, who was buried in Miller Cemetery with
many other family members. Lily M. McClaskey-Rowe was a mixture of Irish,
German, and more than likely some (Stuart) Scottish blood.
From my studies of the family, I can say she did very much take after her
McClaskey heritage, as the Irish were mighty tough! But, in looks she took
after the German side, The Clapp's.
She lived a hard life, and was a good person, and her children's devotion
towards her speaks volumes about her hard work in raising them even after
grandfather, Orvin passed away in 1964.
Each of the children of Orvin & Lily are a very special Aunt or Uncle to me.
And one of course is my father, deceased since I was 21, Alvin Cecil Rowe.
It is my hope that family members will contribute stories about Orvin & Lily
Rowe, themselves, each other and their family life. As those who can share
these stories are still alive and those of us younger folks would sure enjoy
them!
This website is dedicated to those Aunts & Uncles, who loved me no matter
what. And also to my children who are part of the future, and I hope will
want to know just where they came from!
